Kathy Cousart--A Lovely Southern Artist

Updated: Jun 10, 2019

I met Kathy about 2 or 3 years ago at a conference we were attending. Her art struck me and so did her sweet disposition. I feel sure it will affect you in the same way!

Part I: About You

AAT: Who is Kathy Cousart (outside of work)? Describe life.

KC: Life is blessed with a beautiful home and gardens right in the heart of 5 Points that my husband and I are thoroughly enjoying. I get to paint every day in a gorgeous carriage house studio out back of our home.

AAT: What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

KC: My work and art is such a huge part of my life. It is a passion that I am always thinking about art in some way. I love how inspired I get from our Gardens and love learning all about the flowers and plants there. I love walking all over 5 Points (in #athensga) and seeing friends and neighbors here.

One thing that people don’t realize about me……I am actually pretty quiet and could stay to myself happily painting away every day.

Part II: About Your Business

AAT: What business do you own? What type of business is it?

KC: I own Kathy Cousart Fine Art, LLC and it is an Art and Design Business.

AAT: When did you begin your business?

KC: In 2010.

AAT: Where did you begin your business? Is it still located in the same place?

KC: I started my business in our prior home and have since moved it to our current and forever home with my very own carriage house studio out back.

Why did you begin your business?

KC:I began my business to be able to sell my paintings to my friends and collectors.

AAT: How did you begin your business?

KC: I started selling and then when I learned about you at The Southern C ….I knew I needed help and expertise to take it to the next level and you were an amazing help and resource. You continues to be a great sounding board.

AAT: Awww! I so appreciate that-- so very kind of you to say. What has been your biggest trial?

KC: I had one big successful Gallery go out of Business and close their doors while still owing me a lot of money. There have been many lessons learned from that experience.

AAT: What has been your biggest triumph?

KC: My biggest triumph has been reaching a three year goal to be eligible to be nominated for the prestigious Bulldog 100 Club. Very excited to have reached and exceeded those goals over the three years to qualify!!

AAT: Where do you see your business in 5-10 years?

KC: I see my business still thriving and my art reaching even more people. I look forward to more partnerships and Galleries in the future as I love working with them.

Part III: About Your Relationship with Other Businesses

AAT: What was a recent collaboration?

KC: My biggest collaboration with my art business and also a very favorite part is working with Designers to create custom pieces. I love to paint a commission to specifically work in that space and have a huge impact on the design of the space.

AAT: How did you know you wanted to collaborate?

KC: I love experiencing the creative energy of working with Interior Designers! I love seeing what they have already pulled together for a space and being a part of working with that.

AAT: What have been the benefits?

KC: The friendships and creative bonds has been so very special. I love seeing my paintings in beautiful settings that have been expertly designed.

AAT: What is something you would do differently?

KC: I don’t think I would do anything differently….I learn from every experience.

AAT: Name one thing you have learned from working with others?

KC: I have learned so much about pulling a room all together from all the Interior Designers I have worked with. I love seeing them artfully pull and weave together a beautiful space for their clients.

AAT: Best advice for others wanting to collaborate/work with another business?

KC: Be yourself and bring every single gift you have to the table to make it work. Also be honest and professional.

AAT: Last few questions, but I think these are the most important! Favorite quote and Favorite Verse?

KC: OK. Favorite quote comes from somehting my mother gave me. I treasure it and begin every day with it.

The fruit of Silence is Prayer,

The fruit of Prayer is Faith,

The fruit of Faith is Love,

The fruit of Love is Service,

The fruit of Service is Peace.

"Mother Teresa's Business Card"

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." John 14:27 KJV
